With the weekly stock picks underperforming, one must keep in mind that October is a short period for evaluation. Stocks such as RTN and BURL had negative months but are likely to perform positively over a longer period, and especially over months other than October. Some stocks like UCTT, WB and NTRI simply became good buys as a result of their negative performance. That said, October revealed that stocks that performed well over this short period such as ROBO, TXN, BOX, ASYS, MZOR, ISRG and STZ are probably strong buys. Good Investing!

The post October 2017 Stock Pick Performance first appeared on MarchéEconomics.

Overall, the weekly stock picks fared about twice as well as the index beating base stock portfolio. The following link has the table for the weekly stock picks.

An important consideration is that underlying economic fundamentals remain strong and determine business and stock performance in the long-run. Consider temporary corrections as buying opportunities. My stock picks are a good place to start your research when adding to your portfolio positions during a period of falling prices. Also, don’t sell your good stocks and leave yourself with the bad ones because that will hurt you in the long-run. Last, make sure you have an objective and time-horizon for your portfolio. Good Investing!

Weekly stock picks had an even stronger month with most of the negative capital losses among the high yield dividend stocks (DIV HY). Moreover, these losses were slight as these types of stocks tend toward less overall volatility.

It was a month where “less bad” was the winner. On the other hand, some picks occurred with the expectation buying on a pull-back and thus those with the greatest percentage loss represent the greatest profit opportunities. For base stocks, the only index that was worse was the NASDAQ. Base stocks lost to the S & P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial average. Base stock performance is reflected in the following table. Note that when data collection occurred on July 1, the last date available for June was the 29th. I used the same end date of June 29th for the weekly stock picks as well.

June 2017 Base Stock Performance

Weekly stock picks fared better, on the average. Still, there were some wicked pull-backs and consequent buying opportunities for July that were clearly manifest in the following table.

June 2017 Weekly Stock Picks Performance

One important take away from the Tech and semi-conductor sell-off in June relates directly to overall market risk. These stocks had outpaced all other sectors since the beginning of the year. The fast run-up increases risk and the resulting sell-off is necessary before the next run-up in these same stocks can begin again. In fact, the bigger a sector sell-off is, the lower is the risk that the overall market will need to correct or crash.

The table shows that Monthly Base Stock performance nearly doubled the best performing NASDAQ index.

The weekly stock picks fared even better by more than tripling the return on the NASDAQ. Nevertheless, there was significant inconsistency within the group of recommended weekly stock picks. This reinforces the need to do your stock research that supplements my efforts at screening stocks that I expect to perform well. The table below shows weekly stock pick performance. Remember that due to moving my daughter to California I combined the picks for weeks 1 and 2.

I’ll bet that most of you wished you had invested in VEEV and CAMT. These stocks clearly had the greatest monthly return. You can’t expect that these same stocks will have the same return in June as they did in May. Having said that, they still might be good picks for the rest of the year. On the other hand, some of the worst performing stocks in May might very well be among those that perform the best in June. That’s because these are still good stocks. You will have to decide on which strategy to use, or just watch them and see how they do the next month.

I’ll soon have June’s week 1 recommendations ready for your consideration. Good investing!

The post May 2017 Stock Pick Performance first appeared on MarchéEconomics.

Weekly stock picks for April outperformed all 3 major stock indices by a wide margin. Those with dividends exhibited a greater return than simple appreciation (or depreciation) suggests. This is especially important for those with minor decreases in value but that paid substantial dividends. The following chart illustrates the Weekly Stock Pick Performance in terms of only capital appreciation or depreciation.

Nothing stellar here as the Trump bump winds down and stocks move into a trading range that is dependent on earnings.

What was stellar were the FREE monthly stock picks that beat everything . . . and for the second time in a row!

Overall, monthly stock picks for March, which included some funds, were 7.67% on the month, or at an annual rate of 92.04%. In fact, FIZZ and MESO were up over 35% on the month with annual rates of return exceeding. Since March was generally a down month for stocks, my monthly stock picks show that beating the market remains quite possible.

The post March 2017 Stock Pick Performance first appeared on MarchéEconomics.

All recommended base stocks had positive gains during the month of February. Data is in in monthly and annualized percentage changes. For comparison,

. . . . . . . . . % change February . . . (% change Annualized)
DOW 30 . . . . . . . . . 4.63% . . . . . . . . . .(55.58%)
S & P 500 . . . . . . . .3.69% . . . . . . . . . .(44.27%)
NASDAQ . . . . . . . . 3.25% . . . . . . . . . .(38.87%)

On the average, the base stock portfolio performed similarly to the NASDAQ while the monthly stock picks easily outperformed all three major indexes. Thus, the weekly stock picks are full of very healthy and fast running “sled dogs” while the Base Portfolio stocks remain less risky but steady performers.

Even with the negative day on February 28, only two of the weekly pics had negative gains. Moreover, the negative gains were very small and I expect those with negative gains to become positive performers in the near future.
